InvenSense 9 Axis Reference Design Board

   5/14/2010

Are thinking about buying the ITG-3200 but are hesitant because you not sure how to use this 3 axis digital MEMS gyro? Or you purchased the ITG-3200 and the ITG-3200EVB but need to understand how to collect the data? You might want to consider the new 9-Axis reference evaluation board which is to be released in mid-June of 2010.

The reference design uses the ITG-3200, a 3 axis accelerometer, a 3 axis compass and is intended as a system designer’s starting-point, so it has many physical ports and connecting points available. This reference design can be used as an air pointer or to simply better understand how to collect data from the ITG-3200.

The reference design is three separate boards that are connected to make one reference design: The sensor board made up of the ITG-3200, accelerometer, electronic compass and the microcontroller; the power board and an RF (Bluetooth) board. Please see the block circuit below.

The reference design is programmed with example application firmware for an air-mouse demonstration and a raw-data sending mode. This user guide includes the basic descriptions on the hardware and the software utilities running on the host PC to receive the data and display it. The PC should use Windows XP operating system with USB and Bluetooth radio support. An external USB plug-in Bluetooth adaptor will work if the PC does not have built-in Bluetooth.

The 9-axis 8-bit Motion Processing system is intended as a designer’s starting point, for developing new motion processing applications. The documentation is written for practicing electronics engineers and embedded software designers who are very familiar with embedded system design.

This device will be release in mid June of 2010, and will only be available through Component Distributors. If you would like to see the user guide and added to a growing list of potential buyers, please drop an email to scott.weatherwax@cdiweb.com.
